Safello 101: Creating a Bitcoin wallet

Step 1. Picking a wallet

The first thing you must think of when choosing a wallet is which platform you will be using. The most commonly used desktop platforms are PC, Mac and Linux. The most commonly used mobile platforms are Android and IOS. As of the 6th of February 2014 Apple has blocked all bitcoin wallets for iOS, but you can still access web based wallets through safari or any other internet browser. This guide will cover all listed platforms and guide you through choosing a wallet.

You should use: Blockchain.info

image Go to blockchain.info's website, select "Wallet". Select "Create free wallet" image_1 Enter your email, password and captcha. Make sure you have a good password that is long and safe. image_2 Write down or print the words that appear on your screen, they are used as a backup for your account and then select continue. image_3 Log in to your account using displayed identifier. Please write this code down as it will be used as your username on blockchain, you will need this along with your password to log in. image_4 After you have logged in, you will see your Bitcoin address on your start page as highlighted in the picture above. Now your wallet is set up!
You should use: Mycelium

1 Open app store on your phone and search for Mycelium 2Click on Mycelium Bitcoin wallet 3 Click on "Install" 4 Accept App permissions 5 Go to the app in your phone and open it. 6 The string of characters is your Bitcoin address. Now you're done.
You should use: Bitcoin-Qt Windows

1 Go to bitcoin.org and click Bitcoin-Qt then go to the download site. 2   Wait for the file to finish downloading then open the wallet installation file. 3 Now you should see the setup starting, click next. 4 Choose your installation directory, most people will select default settings. 5 Choose start menu folder (or go with the default) then click install 6 Wait for the installation to finish, then click next. 7 The wallet is now installed, click "Finish". 8 This is your wallet interface, you need to sync the wallet to get the latest version of the blockchain. This can take anything from a couple of hours to a few days depending on your computer and download speed. You can still send bitcoin to your  bitcoin addresses but you can’t spend them until the download is done. 9 Select "Receive" to see your bitcoin address, you can use this to receive bitcoin. Now your Bitcoin wallet is set up.
You should use: MultiBit

Step 1, Visit MultiBits website, select the download file that corresponds with your operating system (Mac, Windows or Linux) in the right side column.

1 Save and run the multibit setup program to initiate the installation process. 2 Click "Next" 3 Then press "Next" again 4 Agree with the license agreement and press "Next" 5 Select which users you wish to install the wallet on then click next. 5 The program will install itself, once done click next to complete the installation. Go to your desktop and double click on Multibit to start the program. Your wallet is now set up. 9 Go to the tab that says request, your Bitcoin address will show in the highlighted area.
You should use: Blockchain.info

You should use: Bitcoin-QT (Mac)

Start by going to http://bitcoin.org/en/download and select your OS. Screen Shot 2014-01-28 at 13.49.39 Once downloaded, open the Bitcoin-QT installer file. Screen Shot 2014-01-28 at 13.50.33   Drag the Bitcoin-QT logo to the application folder, then go to your application folder and launch Bitcoin-QT Screen Shot 2014-01-28 at 13.51.08   You will be asked if you want to open it, click open. Screen Shot 2014-01-28 at 13.51.28   Your wallet will now start synchronizing with the network, downloading the whole blockchain. This can take anytime between a couple of hours to a couple of days. Screen Shot 2014-01-28 at 13.51.38   Select receive to find your Bitcoin addess. You are now setup with a Bitcoin Wallet and address.
  You should use: Multibit (Mac)

Go to https://multibit.org/ and select the Mac OS X version.
